EEA Joins the Rally for Fair School Funding at the Ohio Statehouse

On Wednesday, June 26th, Elyria Education Association President Linda Aguiñaga proudly represented our members at the Ohio Education Association’s Rally for Fair School Funding held at the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus. Educators from across the state gathered in solidarity to urge lawmakers to fully fund and implement the Fair School Funding Formula in Ohio’s upcoming state budget.

The rally was a powerful demonstration of unity, passion, and purpose. President Aguiñaga stood among hundreds of educators, parents, and allies—holding signs, chanting messages of support, and reminding lawmakers that public education is the heart of our communities. The rally sent a clear message: our students deserve equitable funding, no matter their zip code.

Why Fair School Funding Matters to EEA Members

The Fair School Funding Formula is designed to provide a more just and stable method for allocating state funds to public schools—one that takes into account both the needs of students and the financial capacity of local communities. For our district, this means:

  • More predictable and sustainable resources for classrooms.

  • Better support for special education, English learners, and mental health services.

  • Relief from over-reliance on local levies and property taxes.

This issue directly impacts our ability as educators to serve our students effectively and equitably. Fair funding is not just a budget line—it’s a reflection of our values, and a necessary foundation for student success.

We thank President Aguiñaga for standing on the front lines in Columbus and will continue to advocate for the resources our students and educators deserve.
